A little flashblack: Italy August 6, 2009

Filed under: Funny stories about life,Italy and Greece — mylifebydesign @ 11:35 pm

Okay so I am going to blog again. My other blogging friends are slacking!! I figured I would do a series of tributes to… dum duh da dum dum dahhhh…..Italy and Greece. Since I never really talked about my trip, the things we saw, the stuff we ate, etc. Courtney, I might throw in a little shout-out for you for food!

First of all, let me update you all on my life. I am at my lake house, which has been quite glorious. Away from Chas and all responsibilities…haha and I get to hang with my mom and stepdad (whom I haven’t seen in forever it seems like). I have been reading like a crazy person. I have almost read three books this week. I have been outside tanning, going for boat rides, running, sleeping in late, and watching t.v. Speaking of running, about a week ago I ran a new record: over six miles!! woohoo! All I know specifically is that I ran for an hour and a half. I was very excited! I am also gearing up to make the next bread in the Bread Baker’s Challenge: Anadama Bread. Oh and I have also already made plans for this extravagant birthday cake that I intend to make and decorate w/ my mom. Don’t worry I will post pictures. It involves chocolate butter-cream icing and polka dots (2 tiers!!) It should be really fun, quite the adventure. No word on the part-time job – ugh I am guessing that aren’t interested in hiring somebody for a fun weeks. Which is completely understandable.

Okay : Italy and Greece. so fun! First of all, we flew from Charlotte to Rome. There are a few stories from the planes/airports but I won’t bore you w/ those. Lets get to the good stuff. I loved Rome- one of my favorite places that we visited during this trip. I will def. be going back one day. There’s the Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, gelato!, The Vatican, tons of art everywhere, the Colosseum, fake Roman soldiers, and ancient Roman ruins just to name a few. Lets look at some pics of these places and things:

I’m tossing the coin in and making a wish! The tradition is you toss one coin in – its a promise you will come back to Rome. Toss two coins in then you are wishing to marry an Italian – I tossed two coins in!! haha. This picture was very challenging for both me and Caroline – we had to take a few. People we were walking in front of us or we missed the throwing process in the pictures…the problems never ended lol. People were getting frustrated with us…I’m sure of it.

this fountain is made for two “lovers” to drink out of at the same time! It is said that if they drink out of it at the exact same time, then they will remain close and stay together forever. Let me tell you, that is some cold and good water. I def. took a little sip while I was leaning in for this picture!

Okay this thing hit us as we walked around the corner of a sidewalk…it was just BOOM there! Right in front of you! It is quite large, hope you can tell from the photo! It was also VERY chilly inside. I was to the point that I was shaking lol. There is an oculus on the middle of the ceiling – allowing rainfall to come inside of the building. They had an area that was roped off because it had rained recently, pretty cool right?? There was a bunch of sculptures, artwork, and almost an altar situation going on inside.

This is where me and Caroline almost saw Will Smith haha! There was this paparazzi camera guy up there w/ pics of Will Smith, claiming that he was just there, we never saw him! Let me tell you, its a lot of steps folks…whew!
I thought I was going to fall!!

I will continue Rome next week in another post, I am running out of room haha. Rome: to be continued……………….

As for spiritually, God is trying to teach me a lot of things at one time. Please pray for me as I try to listen and obey and keep my heart and mind open to new ideas and changes.

A New Year…and New Experiences January 3, 2009

Filed under: God moments,Italy and Greece — mylifebydesign @ 4:47 pm

Hello!!!  This is for Caroline…haha im kidding. So I have been out of school for over 3 weeks now! Its been so great!! I LOVE not being busy and having less responsibilities. This past semester was crazy for me, so wow is it nice to finally relax and enjoy life! I have spent a lot of time with family over break! My dad’s family came down to Charleston for Christmas for the first time, so that was really fun! I got to spend some time with my mom and my stepdad and got to meet his family for the first time! I hung out with Joey a lot and got to spend some time with his family! I also spent some time with my brother, his wife, and their son, Hayden. And I spent some time with good friends, and old friends from high school. Oh and I got to cook a lot!! Courtney… You should be proud. So this break has been so relaxing, and so long (in a good way!!)

As the new year begins and 2008 ends, I realized how much I have been blessed with, how much I have accomplished, and how excited I am for the future in 2009. In five days, I will be leaving for my study abroad trip to study art history, studio art, and architecture in Italy and Greece!! And whoa….am I excited! So I am still reading Acts and its so cool to see how the gospel was spread so quickly and its through some of the areas that I will visiting during the next few weeks. How awesome is that? I probably will not get to see all of them, but hopefully I will get to some…like Corinth, obviously Athens….most of the other places like Ephesus, Antioch, and Colosse are around Cyprus which is a little ways from Greece. This trip should be amazing, and I think it would be awesome to see the location of where some of the disciples and def. Jesus taught and shared the gospel.  Its not often that we as Christians get to see this kind of evidence of Jesus’ ministry, its mostly based on faith. So I am definately blessed to be able to see just small glimpses and evidence of His ministry.

For those of you who do not know the schedule of my trip…here it is!! We fly out of Charlotte at 2 pm on Thursday Jan. 8th. to Atlanta, then Atlanta to Rome, Italy. We are in Rome for the 9th and the 10th (see Vatican City, and an official tour of Rome), then we take a day trip to Florence on the 11th, and back for our last day in Rome on the 12th. We leave for Sorrento on the 12th, and visit Mt. Vesuvius. On the 13th, we leave and arrive in Pompeii and later hitch  a ride on the ferry that takes us to Patras, Greece on the 14th.  The 15th We go through Delphi, Greece. Then the 16th we arrive in Athens, where we stay till the 20th. We will have opportunities to island hop in Greece…so hopefully I will get to see some of the Greek isles. I hear that they are beautiful. Rome is 6 hours ahead of us and Athens is 7 hours ahead. So def. look for blogs and emails from me while I am abroad…b/c I know I will have tons of access to the internet!!  I am def. sad to leave my family, my friends, and Joey, but I am still so excited and I know this is an opportunity of a lifetime! I will be going up to Spartanburg on Tuesday to begin packing and getting ready. I am also going to spend some time with friends when I get back to Spartanburg. My friends are studying abroad this Jan. term to lots of different places (Japan, India, Spain, Costa Rica). The packing will definately be a joint effort between me and Caroline haha! Anyways, pray for safe travels, oh and that nothing happens to our luggage!  That is no fun!

Ciao!!
